PROJECT DETAILS

Schwab Construction had the unique opportunity to move dinosaur fossils at Winona State University. The project required moving 66 million-year-old dinosaur fossils through the first floor window into Stark Hall. The dinosaur fossils weighed approximately 7,000 pounds including the existing earth and plaster that were left around the portion of fossils for transportation. Our team was able to boom the fossils the majority of the way into the building with a 20,000 pound lull, and then transfer the load to 3 gantry systems to evenly distribute the weight across the piece to prevent it from breaking apart. The fossils were then lowered to the ground with chain falls.
